After enjoying a surprise snow day on Friday, Mike and I enjoyed a relaxing weekend with family. We spent time with my family Saturday night at my dad's retirement party. We had so much fun getting to chat with my parents friends that we hadn't seen in a while. I think dad had a great time, and really enjoyed the 3D telephone cake....along with all the other guys :-) Then, we spent time with Mike's family Sunday night for the Super Bowl. We had a relaxing evening eating dinner and catching up. It was during this time that I started having pain in the lower right part of my back. I convince Mike to take me home during the 3rd quarter...he wasn't too excited because his Packers were barely winning at this point. But, being a wonderful husband, he took me home.
By the time we went to bed, the pain was a little bit stronger, but bearable. Around 1:30 am, I woke up to severe pain in the same spot. I tried to be strong and find a comfortable position, but couldn't. I finally woke Mike up, telling him that I thought I had a kidney stone (I've felt this pain before). We called his dad and decided to go to Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. We left our house around 2:30 am in the pouring rain to head to the ER. By the time we got to the hospital, I was in even more pain. Once I got to the check-in counter, the pain was starting to make me feel nauseous. And, of course, I got the trainee at the check-in counter. He had to be walked through EVERY SINGLE STEP. Meanwhile, I'm sweating and about to pass out from the pain. NOT COOL!
After checking in, we went straight back to a private room. It was once I laid down, that the nausea took over...again, NOT COOL! I had my blood drawn, and a talk with the doctor about my symptoms. About 30 minutes later, I was getting a CT Scan done to confirm what was causing my pain. At this point, I still have NOT gotten any pain meds. After the scan, it was another 45 minutes before the doctor came in with the results. By this time, the pain was pretty much gone...luckily, I was also able to get some sleep. The doctor confirmed that the pain I was experiencing was from passing kidney stone. Then, he informed me that I still have 1 kidney stone in EACH kidney that could pass now, in 20 years, or never. Something to look forward to in the future. It was at this time I finally got a shot for the pain....even though I had gone through the majority of it with no meds.
We left the hospital around 6:30 (4 hours later) with snow pouring down. Mike and I both took off work and slept as much as we could. We were both still exhausted today, so we're excited about work already being canceled tomorrow! Everyone at work mentioned how passing a kidney stone is similar to child birth. Their friends who have experienced both, say the kidney stone is worse. If this is the case....I'm ready....bring it! Mike said he was impressed with how I handled the pain. However, I'm pretty sure child birth will be much more painful! Needless to say, Mike and I had an eventful start to our week. Let's hope these other 2 don't decide to pass any time soon.
On the bright side, we made it to community group Monday night. We started our new study by John Piper...Don't Waste Your Life. It sounds like it will be truly eye-opening and a great way to strengthen my walk with Christ. I'm super excited! Hope everyone has a great rest of the week and fun in the snow!!!
